Protection filters

Strainers in water pipe lines

T strainers

T strainers are basket filters with a vertical construction form. They are inline filters with a perforated sheet as their filtering element. Its rather large filtration degree (between 1 mm and 3 mm) makes these an ideal solution to protect upstream equipment from larger and unwanted debris, such as small stones, leaves, branches or even small animals that can sometimes end up in the pipe (if the water is for examples taken from lakes or rivers). These filters are typically used as pump protection.

Mesh screen filters

The filtering element used in these filters is made of a layer of fine wire added onto a perforated support screen, which strengthens the wire mesh. By using this filtering element it is possible to reach much finer filtration degrees down to a few µm. For this reason, mesh filters usually have a lower dirt holding capacity than basket type strainers with perforated sheet metal as a filtration element.

Mesh filters are available in several construction forms, to adapt to the system layout. They are therefore used in applications where the content of particles tends to be lower, such as closed circuits. A typical application can be protection of a heat-exchanger.
